Located in the Greater Philadelphia area, I’m a father of two amazing kids, a husband to a wonderful and extremely supportive wife, an author, and at my core, a teacher.
Since a young age, I had a passion for helping others, which manifested during my years in academia as an unofficial tutor. Over lunch and between classes, I helped my peers understand new and complex teachings, as I had a talent for breaking down challenging concepts into easier to consume information.
It was the combination of up my upbringing, interaction with educators, and real-world exposure to different management styles in the workplace that helped shape my management philosophy of catching people doing something right. While naturally self-motivated, I especially thrived in positive work environments that recognized and appreciated my hard work. It was in these types of settings where I continually wanted to do my absolute best, which resulted in multiple outstanding achievement awards.
However, I have also witnessed the opposite, where no matter what you did or how stellar your performance, the absence of appreciation and praise was replaced by constant threats to your team and punishments if unrealistic goals were not met. Even when the goals were achieved, there was no congratulations, only a comment along the lines of, “Well, it won’t be this easy next time!” Fear tactics are never a good long-term growth strategy. Employers might be able to squeeze slightly higher numbers from their workforce for a short period of time, but they end up destroying trust and the corporate culture. Eventually people leave, and the highest performers are usually the first out the door. The result? A significant increase in hiring and training expenses along with a bad reputation which proliferates not only through professional channels but also to consumers.
After graduating at the top of my class with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management as well as Human Resource Management, I obtained my first formal management position which gave me the opportunity to fully implement my philosophy. It was a great success. Through various positive reinforcement strategies and the creation and execution of personalized career development programs, my team improved performance by 89% to 1st in the district within my first month of leadership and achieved 188% of our annual operating profit goal within the same year.
From there I was given the opportunity to guide folks from all walks of life into an appropriate field of higher education that aligned with their personal and professional aspirations. It was rewarding to know I played a significant role in preparing these students for a bright and successful future.
With a longstanding fascination of space and the associated technologies, I set forth on my next adventure and joined the sales team in a commercial software company specializing in multi-domain modeling, analysis, and simulation. From the very start, it was a great fit as the corporate culture mirrored my professional and personal values. With a focus on productivity, positivity, and perseverance, I have achieved the top 4% of all-time cumulative sales within the organization’s 30+ year history. Educating people about the serious challenges within the aerospace and defense industry, threats to national security, the criticality of instituting a true digital engineering implementation for program execution, and ways to address these complex challenges has led to organizational success, customer growth, and helping to protect our nation’s safety, all while furthering technological innovation.
